A routine enforcement stop on a Texas highway escalated into a violent incident that has since drawn significant legal and public attention.
On August 1, 2023, U.S. Border Patrol agents were conducting standard checkpoint operations along Highway 57 when a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Kevin Dominguez was selected for inspection. During the stop, a trained detection dog alerted agents to the trunk of the sedan, prompting a closer search. When officers opened the trunk, they discovered an individual concealed inside the vehicle, believed to be in the United States without legal authorization.
What happened next unfolded in seconds. According to court records and prosecutors, Dominguez reacted abruptly when the discovery was made. Instead of remaining at the scene, he placed his vehicle in reverse and accelerated, striking a federal agent who was positioned behind the car.
