😮Leavitt Sets Media Straight With Fact-Check On Joe Biden

At a media event hosted by Axios co-founder Mike Allen, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the administration’s handling of press access while drawing a contrast between President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden.

During the discussion, Allen questioned whether recent changes to the White House press pool—particularly involving long-established outlets like the Associated Press—could affect how history is documented. He referenced a widely recognized photograph taken by AP photographer Evan Vucci, suggesting that limiting consistent access for such organizations might impact the public record.

Leavitt rejected the idea that the changes amount to restrictions. Instead, she argued that the administration is expanding opportunities for a wider range of media outlets. According to her, the goal is to move away from what she described as a concentration of access among a small group of organizations that traditionally dominate the limited press pool.

She noted that thousands of journalists are credentialed to cover the White House, with hundreds actively reporting on a daily basis. In her view, it is reasonable to rotate access within the 13-member press pool to allow more voices and perspectives to participate. Leavitt maintained that this approach promotes greater diversity in coverage and ultimately improves transparency.

She also pointed out that news about the administration continues to reach the public consistently, arguing that the presence of active journalists in the briefing room ensures ongoing accountability and reporting.

Allen then raised a counterpoint from the White House Correspondents’ Association, which has expressed concern that the government should not influence which independent media outlets are granted access. His question underscored a broader debate about balancing expanded access with maintaining press independence and protecting the role of established news organizations.
