The White House has unveiled detailed renderings of a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch, a centerpiece of President Donald Trump’s plan to reshape the architectural identity of Washington, D.C. The monument is planned for Memorial Circle at the southwestern end of Arlington Memorial Bridge, overlooking the Potomac River near the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. If built, it would become the tallest triumphal arch in the world, surpassing famous landmarks like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Monumento a la Revolución in Mexico City.
The design, created by Harrison Design, has been submitted to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts for federal review. The renderings depict a grand and highly symbolic structure, featuring a central figure inspired by the Statue of Liberty. The arch would also include decorative elements such as gilded eagles and four large lions positioned at its base, emphasizing strength and national pride.
Patriotic inscriptions, including “One Nation Under God” and “Liberty and Justice For All,” are expected to be prominently displayed. Standing at 250 feet, the monument would rise more than twice the height of the Lincoln Memorial, giving it a commanding presence within the capital’s historic skyline.
President Trump has linked the project to the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026, presenting it as both a symbolic and lasting tribute to the nation’s history. He has described the arch as a “magnificent addition” meant to inspire future generations.
The proposal is part of a broader effort to introduce large-scale aesthetic changes to Washington, including plans for the National Garden of American Heroes and renovations to the White House. As the review process begins, the project is expected to generate significant public debate over its scale, cost, and impact.
