💔 Just In 10 Minutes Ago Shock in D.C. Violent Crime Declined Sharply Across U.S. Under Trump: Report…

A year-end analysis from the Council on Criminal Justice reveals that violent crime declined significantly across major U.S. cities in 2025, pointing to a broad and encouraging shift in public safety.

The report examined data from 40 large metropolitan areas and found that 11 of 13 major crime categories experienced reductions compared to 2024. Even more notably, nine of those categories dropped by double-digit percentages, highlighting the scale and consistency of the improvement.

The most striking development was a 21 percent decrease in homicides across the cities studied. This marks one of the largest single-year declines in recent history and continues a four-year trend of falling murder rates following the spike seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. In cities with consistent data, homicide levels in 2025 were approximately 25 percent lower than in 2019, suggesting that many urban areas are now safer than they were before the pandemic began.

Several cities recorded especially dramatic progress. Denver led with a 41 percent drop in homicides, while Washington, D.C. and Omaha each saw declines of about 40 percent. Other major cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Buffalo, all reported homicide reductions exceeding 30 percent. Meanwhile, New York City reached its lowest recorded level of gun violence, and Philadelphia saw its lowest homicide total since 1966.

The positive trend extended beyond violent crime. Motor vehicle thefts dropped by 27 percent, reversing a troubling rise in recent years. Declines were also reported in burglary, shoplifting, and various types of assault. Additional support for these findings came from the Major Cities Chiefs Association, which documented a 20 percent decrease in homicides across 67 law enforcement agencies.

Although the Federal Bureau of Investigation has not yet released its final nationwide data, preliminary indicators align with these trends. Experts attribute the improvements to a mix of enhanced policing strategies, expanded community-based violence prevention programs, and the gradual stabilization of social conditions after the pandemic. However, officials caution that crime levels in some areas remain above historic lows, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation among law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations to sustain progress into 2026.
