Ashley Biden, the daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, Dr. Howard Krein, according to court documents filed in Philadelphia.
The 44-year-old submitted the divorce petition Monday in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas, bringing an end to a marriage that began in June 2012. The couple was introduced by Joe Biden’s late son, Beau Biden, in 2010 before marrying two years later in Greenville, Delaware.
Court records related to the divorce remain sealed under local rules, and no official reason for the separation has been made public.
Dr. Howard Krein, a plastic surgeon, has largely stayed out of the political spotlight throughout the marriage, maintaining his medical career while Ashley Biden focused on social advocacy and nonprofit work.

Social Media Post Hints at New Chapter
On the same day the divorce filing became public, Ashley Biden shared an Instagram photo of herself walking through a park while giving a thumbs-up. The post featured Beyoncé’s song Freedom and included a message that many interpreted as reflecting a major life transition.

Ashley Biden did not directly mention the divorce in the post, and neither she nor Dr. Krein has publicly commented on the filing.
