Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has announced that she will resign from her position in the Trump administration, citing a serious family health matter.
In a post shared Friday on X, Gabbard said she is stepping down in order to support her husband, Abraham, who has been diagnosed with what she described as “an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”
Gabbard expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve as Director of National Intelligence, writing in her resignation letter that she is “deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the last year and a half.”
She explained that her husband’s diagnosis will require her full attention in the months ahead.
“Abraham has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” Gabbard wrote. “He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months, and I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.”
According to reports, Gabbard informed President Trump of her decision before making the announcement public on Friday. Her final day as Director of National Intelligence is expected to be June 30.
The announcement marks the end of Gabbard’s tenure leading the nation’s intelligence community as she turns her focus to supporting her family during a difficult time.
