Dr. Kelly Powers, a Fox News contributor known for her appearances on Red Eye and Fox Business, has died at the age of 45 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, the U.K.’s Daily Mail reported.
Born on May 13, 1979, in Yonkers, New York, Powers earned her undergraduate degree at Baruch College in New York City before attending the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She later received a master’s degree in science from the University of San Francisco and completed residencies at Georgetown University and Boston University. Powers became a respected surgeon and medical expert, frequently appearing on Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, NBC, and CBS to share her expertise.
In 2020, Powers was diagnosed with glioblastoma. Initially, she appeared to overcome the disease after undergoing surgery to remove a tumor, but the cancer returned earlier this year, according to her friend and Fox colleague Cheryl Casone. Despite undergoing three surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, Powers remained resilient, even experiencing the joy of pregnancy and the birth of her son, Bennett. She humorously called herself “the luckiest unlucky girl,” often joking that her treatment left her and Bennett with matching haircuts during his infancy.
Her battle was supported by friends who raised nearly $100,000 to fund an experimental treatment when her cancer returned in 2024, The New York Post reported.
Powers passed away in New Jersey. She had lived in Colts Neck with her family, and she is survived by her husband, Steven Doll, and their young son. An obituary from Holmdel Funeral Home described her as “a brave and beautiful soul who could make friends anywhere she went… an accomplished doctor and surgeon… dedicated to helping others.”
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, and a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Tower Hill Church in Red Bank, New Jersey.
Even as a patient, Powers remained committed to health awareness. While hosting a Fox News segment on heart health, she experienced shortness of breath and chest pains, leading to her first diagnosis of heart failure, which she later overcame. Throughout her life, Dr. Kelly Powers combined medical expertise, humor, and courage, leaving a lasting impact on patients, colleagues, and viewers alike.
