Ashley Biden Files For Divorce From Husband After 13 Years

Ashley Biden, the daughter of former U.S. President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, Howard Krein, after more than 13 years of marriage. According to court records, the filing was submitted on August 11, 2025, in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. As is common with divorce proceedings in the city, the details of the complaint have not been made public, and no specific reason for the separation has been disclosed.

Ashley and Krein were first introduced by her late brother, Beau Biden. Their relationship eventually led to marriage on June 2, 2012, in Greenville, Delaware. The ceremony reflected their interfaith backgrounds, blending Catholic and Jewish traditions. Krein, a respected plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist based in Philadelphia, has largely maintained a low public profile despite his connection to the Biden family. Over the years, Ashley occasionally shared glimpses of their life together, including fond memories of their wedding. During remarks at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, she recalled how her father, then serving as vice president, personally helped prepare for the reception, taking on tasks like arranging decorations in a hands-on and heartfelt way.

On the same day she filed for divorce, Ashley appeared to signal a new chapter in her life through a series of Instagram Stories. One post showed her walking through a park and giving a thumbs-up gesture, accompanied by the song “Freedom” by Beyoncé. Another post featured a reflective message about embracing change and setting new boundaries, paired with “Freedom Time” by Lauryn Hill. Although some of these posts were later removed, they suggested a tone of personal growth and transition.

This personal development comes at a time when the Biden family is also facing renewed political attention. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, released a report in October 2025 titled “The Biden Autopen Presidency.” The report alleges that there was an effort to conceal signs of Joe Biden’s cognitive decline during the final months of his presidency. It further claims that senior aides may have used an autopen—a device that replicates a person’s signature—to authorize executive actions such as orders and pardons without clear confirmation of the president’s direct involvement.

Comer referred the matter to the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi, suggesting that certain decisions made during that period could potentially be challenged if questions about presidential capacity were substantiated. However, legal experts caution that such claims would require thorough judicial review. The use of an autopen has historical precedent in previous administrations, and courts would ultimately need to determine whether proper authorization was given.

Additional scrutiny stems from earlier concerns, including Biden’s 2024 debate performance and findings from Special Counsel Robert Hur, whose report mentioned memory-related issues but did not conclude that Biden was unfit to serve.

Overall, Ashley Biden’s divorce remains a private matter unfolding quietly, while the political questions surrounding her father continue to generate debate and may take time to resolve through formal legal processes.
