President Donald Trump announced that the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance intercepted the Iranian-flagged cargo ship TOUSKA in the Gulf of Oman after the vessel allegedly failed to comply with repeated orders to stop near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump’s account, U.S. forces issued warnings to the ship over a period of approximately six hours. After the vessel reportedly continued on its course, the USS Spruance used its 5-inch deck gun to disable the ship by targeting its engine room. U.S. Marines subsequently boarded the vessel and took control of it.
Trump said the crew had received multiple warnings before the action was taken and stated that the operation was conducted to enforce U.S. maritime restrictions in the area. He described the interception as a demonstration of the United States’ commitment to maintaining security and freedom of navigation in a strategically important waterway.
Independent confirmation of the incident and additional details from U.S. military officials, Iranian authorities, or other sources were not immediately available.
