Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Salt Lake’s Ballpark neighborhood

A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Salt Lake’s Ballpark neighborhood.

A spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department said they received a call about a man with a weapon just after 6:30 on Friday near 150 West Lucy Avenue.

“A caller told SLC911 a man was suicidal and brandished a weapon to a neighbor. The caller told dispatch the man now had a handgun in his waistband,” police said.

Officers arrived within minutes and took cover behind a truck on the street.

Shortly after officers arrived, the man, who had gone back inside the house, reportedly came out with the gun in his hand.

Four officers shot at the man, and he died at the scene.

Police have not released his identity as they work to inform his family.

The four officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave following protocol, while officials investigate the fatal use of force. The West Valley City Police Department is conducting the investigation.
